• Melbourne’s Yarra’s Edge will be home to a new public park and luxury health and wellbeing facility, the Wharf Club, allowing Forge and Voyager residents as well as a limited number of user pay members to take a plunge by the Yarra River with the city skyline as a backdrop.

The Wharf Club by Mirvac is the urban property group’s latest addition to the wellness facilities of the growing suburb of approximately 3000 residents. The club will feature a pool, steam room, expansive fitness centre and café underneath the lush, green 2000-square-metre public park, Wharf’s Landing.

A manicured lawn wraps over the inclined grass roof of the Wharf Club facility, allowing visitors to walk up the hill-like rooftop to enjoy the stunning waterfront views of the Yarra River.

The park, ‘Wharf’s Landing’ will provide a natural meeting place where residents can sprawl out on the expansive green lawn, while membership for the health club will be free for Forge and Voyager residents to enjoy.

Wharf Club members will have access to the latest in fitness technology, including equipment with internet connectivity that provides each member with their own mini TV channel to personalise their fitness goals.

General Manager of the Wharf Club Sara Sohrabi said the club’s waterfront views aimed to enhance overall wellbeing and decrease stress levels.

“The water views help people to relax and the Wharf Club’s riverfront location gives people a variety of health activities they can do at their doorstep,” she said.

The wellbeing aspects of Yarra’s Edge are supported by a growing body of research that illustrates the benefits of living by the water, termed the ‘blue mind’ by marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols.

In his book ‘Blue Mind: The surprising science of how being near, in, on, or under water can make you happier, healthier, more connected and better at what you do’, Mr Nicholsexplains we are hard-wired to respond positively to water as it calms and gives our brains a rest from overstimulation.

According to Mr Nichols’ research, a waterfront view induces a mildly meditative state that has been associated with lower stress, reduced anxiety and improved mental clarity.

Dr. Julio Sison, who purchased a luxury Wharfside Residence from Mirvac, agrees waterfront living has a relaxing effect.

“As a General Practitioner I’m on call 24/7. I chose to live in Wharf’s Entrance for the convenient lifestyle and to balance my busy schedule. Living by the water also provides a very relaxing environment for me. When I see all the yachts over the river I feel like I’m living in Monte-Carlo,” he said.

The Wharf Club is the latest milestone for Mirvac’s Wharf’s Entrance precinct, which began construction in 2013 as part of the ongoing development of Yarra’s Edge. The property group has transformed the former wharf into a well-connected community centred around optimising health and wellbeing.

Mirvac General Manager of Residential Victoria, Elysa Anderson said the Wharf Club and Wharf’s Landing park are integral elements of Mirvac’s strategy to form a close-knit and vibrant community.

“At Mirvac, we began planning the Yarra’s Edge precinct close to 20 years ago with a vision to offer a tranquil lifestyle for our residents with access to the best of what Melbourne’s city has to offer within walking distance.

“Today we have created a community of 3000 people who enjoy a unique living environment of an unparalleled waterfront location, combined with several amenities including a gallery, café and supermarket within walking distance,” she said.

Wharf’s Entrance at Yarra’s Edge is located within walking distance to several restaurants, is 15 minutes from South Wharf, 2km to Melbourne’s Crown Entertainment and less than 3km to Southbank.

The Wharf’s Entrance precinct now has the recently completed $200 million Forge residential tower, Cargo Homes and the Wharfside Residences luxury waterfront homes. The precinct’s tallest tower Voyager has also been released.

Yarra’s Edge is due to be completed in approximately seven years.

The Wharf’s Entrance display suite is located on South Wharf Drive and Point Park Crescent, Docklands and is open daily from 12pm to 5pm. The Wharf Club is also located on South Wharf Drive, in front of the Forge Apartments.
